About the Organ
The organ at First Congregational Church is itself a star of the show. Built in 1972 by the renowned Casavant Frères Organ Company of Quebec, the instrument was carefully designed to both support choral and congregational singing and to serve as a recital-quality organ for visiting artists. With 21 hand-selected stops, it offers tonal diversity capable of bringing German Baroque masterpieces and French Romantic works vividly to life.
In 2007, the organ was further modernized with a new electrified console, expanding its versatility with couplers that allow for English choral accompaniment and Romantic-era repertoire. More than 40 years since its installation, it remains a beloved and powerful instrument, continuing a long tradition that stretches back to the congregation’s very first melodeon.
